Legends of the British Isles

In this unit we will be learning about legends of the British Isles including the legend of King Arthur and its special place in English literature.
The focus of our learning will be the features of legends. We will be learning about themes, characters and content of legends: the difference between legend, fable, traditional stories and myths. In addition, we will be explicitly exploring the stories and characters found in Arthurian legend.
Our writing will include: balanced argument, persuasive writing, and a legend based on the characters, themes and settings found in Arthurian legend. Children will writng a variety of formats including diary entries, letters and stories.
Children will be learning creatively using drama techniques to access more challenging language and concepts in order to develop their understanding of older texts from English Literature.
