Writing - Unit Three Stories with Historical Settings

Stories with Historical Settings

Stay Where You Are and Then Leave John Boyne

In this unit we will be learning about historical fiction: how to use key facts and language from a specific historical period to give stories authenticity.

The focus of our learning will be the language of historical fiction.  We will be learning about themes, characters and content of a WWI story: the specific problems and issues faced by people during WWI.

Our writing will include: balanced argument, first person recount, summaries and narrative writing.  The unit will culminate in the writing of a supplementary chapter of the novel.

Children will be learning creatively using drama techniques to access more challenging issues in order to develop their understanding of life for civilians and soldiers during WWI.
