Accurate spelling helps children become fluent and effective writers.  Throughout Key Stage 2 children will learn spelling rules and patterns using a variety of strategies, together with dictionary work and proof-reading techniques.  The following key spellings should be learned alongside the weekly spelling lists.

Below you will find a list of authors and works that I would recommend year five and six children to read. These recommendations have been chosen to develop reading skills but also, and most importantly, because they are fun to read.

 

Government research has shown that reading for pleasure is important for educational and personal development.
