Identify the types of angle:
- ACUTE - less than 90°
- OBTUSE - larger than 90° but less than 180°
- REFLEX - larger than 180°
CHALLENGE
- Choose one triangle and one quadrilateral.
- Measure the angles in each.
- Add the angles.
- Write the sum of the angles of your chosen shape inside the shape.
The sum of the angles of a triangle = 180°
The sum of the angles of a quadrilateral = 360°
Were your measurements accurate?

After watching the short video we can infer that if you know the number of cubes on the base of a cuboid, you can multiply the base by the numbers of layers to find the volume.
For example,
A cuboid with a width of 2 cubes and a length of 4 cubes would have 8 cubes on the base layer.
If this cuboid had 6 layers of cubes, the height would be 6 cubes.
It is now easy to use the formula width x length x height to calculate the volume.
width = 2
length = 4
height = 6
2 x 4 x 6 = 48cubes
Use this formula to calculate the volume of each shape in the worksheet below.
TOP TIP
Remember - you can multiply the numbers in any order because
2 x 4 x 6 = 2 x 6 x 4 = 4 x 2 x 6 and so on.
Sometimes changing the order you multiply can make the calculation easier because you can use known facts to help you.
Here is an example 20 x 7 x 35 =
I would calculate 20 x 35 first because I know how to multiply by 20 (double the number and multiply by 10)
20 x 35 (double 35 is 70, and 10 x 70 is 700) = 700
Now it is easy to multiply by 7 because I know that 7 x 7 = 49
700 x 7 = 4,900

Find Three Items
For this activity I would like to find three small items that you can measure the length of in mm
Write the items and the length in mm and then convert each length to cm.
Now find three items that you can measure the length of in cm.
Write the items and the length in cm and then convert each length to mm and to m.
Now find three items that you can measure the length of in m.
Write the items and the length in cm and then convert each length to mm and to cm.
Remember:
- to convert from cm to mm you must multiply by 10 because 10mm = 1cm
- to convert from mm to cm you must divide by 10 because 10mm = 1cm
- to convert from m to cm you must mulitliply by 100 because 100cm = 1m
- to convert from cm to m you must divide by 100 because 100cm = 1m
- to convert from m to mm you must multiply by 1000 because 1000mm = 1m
- to convert from mm to m you must divide by 1000 because 1000mm = 1m

You will need:
- decimal sheet
- two sets of numbers cards 0-9
(see resources below)
- a dice
Instructions:
- Choose three numbers cards and place them on the decimal sheet. For example, if you chose 3, 4, 7, you might make 3.74
- Roll the dice
- Use the table to create a calculation. For example, if you roll a 4 the calulation would be: 3.74 x 10
- Write this calculation and the answer 3.74 x 10 = 37.4
- Repeat until you have ten calculations.
roll | operation |
1 | ÷ 10 |
2 | ÷ 100 |
3 | ÷ 1000 |
4 | x 10 |
5 | x 100 |
6 | x 1000 |
